Dear Friends,

Congratulations to John Avlon for winning the NY01 Democratic primary! He is now our nominee to take on Republican Nick LaLota in the general election. He is a strong candidate and gives us a great chance for Democrats to take back this district. And we are honored that John will be speaking at our Club breakfast this Saturday. This really is an event you won’t want to miss!

Reminder that we have a change in venue for our event on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Rather than being at Main Prospect, we will be gathering at the Southampton Inn, 91 Hill St, Southampton, NY 11968.
While the venue has changed, the event is the same. We will be focusing on the battle for reproductive rights in the 2024 election, particularly the importance of passing the New York ERA Ballot Referendum, which has been reinstated on the ballot for this fall. The Republican attempt to derail it via the courts failed.

We are excited to welcome, as our guest speaker, Attorney Irma Solis, Suffolk Regional Office Director of the New York Civil Liberties Union. Along with Planned Parenthood and many other organizations in New York, the NYCLU has been instrumental in drafting the NY ERA Referendum and is dedicated to educating the public on why it is so important to enshrine the NY ERA into our state constitution.

The NY ERA is about protecting reproductive rights from the danger of the anti-abortion, anti-IVF, anti-contraception GOP. But it is also an issue of social and racial justice. We will be privileged to hear from Ms. Solis about these issues and she will also answer all your questions.

The NYCLU is non-partisan, but after she leaves, we will talk to John Avlon and discuss what we as Democrats can do to get the word out about passing the NY ERA Referendum and how this issue will drive turnout in the election.

The Southampton Inn will do a lovely job for us, and we look forward to holding another event with them. The breakfast buffet will be from 10:00-11:00 AM, with the guest speaker and Q&A period to follow.

Purchase your breakfast tickets online by credit card or PayPal at www.shdemclub.com. The online price is $35 for Club members and $45 for non-members. Tickets purchased at the door of the event are $40 for Club members and $50 for non-members. Remember, all tickets purchased at the door for the event can be paid by cash or check only.

If you have paid your 2024 dues, then utilize the member price. If you haven’t paid your annual $50 dues for 2024, you can do so now, and then purchase your breakfast tickets at the member price. Dues can be paid online @www.shdemclub.com or mail a check made out to JP Spata Southampton Town Democratic Club to PO Box 1030, Water Mill, NY 11976.

Please do NOT mail checks to pay for a breakfast event, but only to pay the annual dues.

Whether you pay ahead of time or plan on paying at the door, RSVP by noon Wednesday, June 26th if you plan on attending. This way, the Southampton Inn gets an accurate head count. To RSVP, you can email me at shdemclub@gmail.com or text me at 631-355-0021. Include your name and the number of people in your party as part of your RSVP email or text.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on June 29th!

Stay well,
Barbara Weber-Floyd, President
